As 2024 draws to a close, We the People of Detroit is doubling down on our efforts to ensure that water is recognized as a fundamental human right. For years, Michigan’s most vulnerable communities have faced the devastating effects of water shutoffs, unaffordable water rates, and environmental injustice. Despite the challenges, we’ve made incredible strides, but the work is far from done.

Your support fuels our mission to advocate for water equity, train the next generation of community-centered leaders, and build a future where every family has access to the essential resources they need. Every donation helps keep the fight alive.

What Your Donation Supports

Your contribution will directly impact key initiatives, including:

• We the Youth of Detroit Leadership Development: Equipping the next generation with the knowledge and tools to lead the charge for water and climate justice.
• Water Policy, Education, and Engagement Program (Water PEEPs): Providing critical education, resources, and support to Detroiters fighting against the environmental and economic injustices affecting their neighborhoods.
• Blue Network Tech Hubs: Expanding digital access and environmental justice initiatives by installing tech hubs in underrepresented Great Lakes communities.
• Water Equity Legal Fellowship Program: Training community-centered lawyers to tackle water justice issues and protect Detroiters from water shutoffs and unjust policies.

Our Impact in 2024

This year, with the help of our supporters, we have:

• Expanded our We the Youth of Detroit program to a year-long youth leadership and enrichment program, connecting youth around the Great Lakes to leadership opportunities.
• Worked to strengthen local policy that protect thousands of Detroit families from water shutoffs.
• Launched our Water Equity Legal Fellowship to train more lawyers committed to justice and community.
